Winter Trends 2024
Deep tones, a velvet texture, and a quiet shine for the cold season.
By Sofía Rodríguez
Winter 2024 does not ask for a single runway color. It asks for a lower light: forest green, midnight blue, burgundy, and a black that is not flat. Those tones look best on a short or medium nail, because a deep color already has presence and does not need a heavy design to be noticed.

The velvet effect stays in the conversation because it changes how light meets the nail. Instead of a mirror shine, it leaves a soft, almost fabric surface. It works especially well in burgundy and deep green. If a bag rubs the finish, a very thin matte top coat brings it back without shifting the color.
Metal this season is quiet. A fine gold or silver line near the cuticle, or a single detail on the ring finger, is enough for dinner or a party. The other nails can stay in a solid color. That proportion, plenty of color and little ornament, is what looks current in this season’s photographs.

Texture matters as much as tone. A soft cat eye, chrome used only on the tip, or a dark inverted French gives movement without large drawings. It is worth testing the design on one nail before committing all ten, especially if the event lasts several hours.
Caring for a dark color is part of the trend, not an afterthought. A stain-blocking base, thin coats, and a full cure keep the polish from looking thick. When you remove it, time and the right acetone protect the plate. A well-worn winter shows in the shade and in the nail that remains underneath.
